When President Peter announced to the 33 Rotarians, Inner Wheel members and friends, that he was delighted to be recognising the contribution of one of our Rotarians, you could have heard a pin drop as we waited for the big reveal!
Speaking at the club's President Night event at Feli's Bar & Restaurant on Wednesday night, Peter said, “this member has been an invaluable support, especially in the last few years and volunteered to help with key roles which no one else would take on. As well as making a great contribution to the club, the person is also worthy of recognition for the contribution made to the people of Pershore.”
A keen supporter of children’s activities in the Abbey and known for being forthright and not afraid to take on the Lord of the Manor, especially if it’s affecting Wick, many will have guessed who it was that Peter was talking about, particularly when he said that just about every young person in Pershore addresses her formally and gets the response “I used to teach him (or her)!"
Yes, the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship was our President Elect, Lynne who later said, “the award was a very pleasant surprise. I have always believed that Rotarians should not only volunteer through Rotary but where possible in their local community. In my case I was pleased to lead the Foodbank in Pershore for eight years as well as serving on Wick Parish Council for twelve years, the last four as chairman. It should be noted that none of that is possible without teams of volunteers who willingly give up their time to serve their local communities.”
Many congratulations Lynne. Well deserved.
