About Hospice Nepal

Hospice Nepal was founded 25 years ago by four friends with a shared vision: to provide compassionate palliative care for terminally ill patients in Nepal. Their efforts led to the creation of the country’s first hospice, an eight-bed facility in Kathmandu, which officially opened in 2005. Today, it also supports over 200 patients each year through its home care programme.

However, the need for palliative care in Nepal has grown significantly. With a population of around 30 million people, the demand for services far exceeds what the current facility can provide. Over the past five years alone, referrals have increased by 50%, placing additional strain on the hospice’s limited resources.

The existing building is now no longer fit for purpose. It lacks sufficient space, appropriate facilities for children and accommodation for families. Most importantly, it restricts the hospice’s ability to expand its outreach into rural areas, where access to care is even more limited.

The vision - close now to completion

The Vision: A New Hospice for Nepal

To meet this growing need, Project Hospice Nepal aims to build a modern, fully equipped hospice in Kathmandu with capacity for 20 - 24 beds, serving both adults and children. The new facility will also include space for healthcare training and allow for the expansion of outreach programmes into rural communities.

This ambitious project is led by Rotary Clubs around the world, including Pershore Rotary Club and The Rotary Club of Hereford City, working alongside medical professionals and supporters globally.

The total cost of the project exceeds $2 million USD. Thanks to incredible generosity and dedication, much of this has already been raised:

  • Stage 1: $650,000 raised to purchase land (completed in 2021)
  • Stage 2: $1,000,000 raised to construct the building (now nearly complete)
  • Stage 3: The final $600,000 needed to fully equip and furnish the hospice

It is this final stage where your support can make a real and lasting difference. Funds raised from events like this supper will help transform the building into a fully functioning hospice, ready to care for patients with dignity and compassion.

Stage 2 the building

By joining us on the 13th June - or by making a donation - you are helping bring this vision to life. Thank you for your support.
