Parkinson's UK was nominated as President Peter Gardner’s charity for the Pershore Rotary year 2024-25 and, in September 2024, Martyn Palmer spoke to club members on the support given to Parkinson’s sufferers by the Evesham & Pershore Parkinson’s Friendship Group. The group offers information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers and is part of the Worcester and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK, organising regular events and social activities.
Sadly, most of us know someone who has or had Parkinson's and our memories of them live on. The club has held several fundraising events for the charity over the year, including the Rock Choir concert in March 2025 and has raised and donated £3,200 to Parkinson’s UK.
We were delighted to welcome Martyn Palmer back to the club on Wednesday, 18 June to receive an acknowledgement of the donation made in the form of a certificate. Martyn commented, “It’s hard to believe that 9 months have passed since I spoke to you last September about living with Parkinson’s. Clearly you have had a very productive year of fundraising and, on behalf of Parkinson’s UK and the Evesham and Pershore Friendship Group, I thank you for your effort and commitment in achieving such a great result. The concert in March was a key part of your fundraising programme and the opportunity for Parkinson’s UK to be represented at the event was much appreciated. The £3,200 which you have raised will be divided between the national Parkinson’s UK research programmes and the Worcester and District local friendship and support groups, where it will make a real difference to the care and support of local people living with Parkinson’s, which seems to fit well with the Rotary Club’s fundraising aims. Congratulations to Peter for a successful year as your President and thank you all for your great achievements on behalf of the Parkinson’s community.”
